We are so excited to announce that the incredible Jaki Graham will be performing at acanteen.
As the first British female solo artist to have 6 consecutive Top 20 hits, Jaki Graham firmly maintains her position as Britain’s most revered queen of soul.
Everyone remembers Jaki from the 1980's. The duet with David Grant, "Could It be I’m Falling in Love", was released in early 1985 reaching No. 5 in March of that year. Jaki's fourth, and probably best known, solo single "Round and Around" saw her return to the UK top 10 a few months later. As her first album reached completion in the summer of that year, "Heaven Knows" was re-released and she toured the UK for the first time. Who can forget "Mated" which was sensational and received wide critical acclaim around the world.
Graham's single "Set Me Free" was released in early 1986 and reached No. 7 in the UK, also seeing the success repeated throughout Europe. "Breaking Away" was released in August as the and follow up single, reaching No. 14 in the UK charts.
Michael McDonald is quoted as saying "Jaki is one of the best singers Britain has ever produced", and a deep friendship and mutual respect grew between the two artists that remains to this day, with McDonald having written for Graham's albums and featuring her as a special guest on his UK tours.
This is a gig not to be missed!
